68-Year-Old Man Dies in Head-on Crash

February 16, 2012 - Streetsboro, Ohio - A 68-year old man was killed when his vehicle went left-of-center on Route 14 in Streetsboro.  The man struck a 2011 Kia driven by a 29-year-old woman.  The force of the crash caused severe injuries to both drivers.  Police are not sure why the man crossed over into oncoming traffic. The woman was taken to Akron General Hospital, where she remained hospitalized for several days.  The 68-year-old man was transported to Akron City Hospital, but ultimately died from his injuries.

While this case is a tragic accident, the driver that went left-of-center should be held accountable for the damage he caused to the innocent 29-year-old woman. This case highlights the significant costs distracted drivers can cause in accidents when they go left of center into oncoming traffic.  When two cars are travelling in opposite directions, the force of the collision is greater than if you were to drive into a brick wall. This is due to the two cars accelerating in opposite directions at the time of the accident. The significant amount of force associated with the collision greatly increases the severity of injuries. In this case, this accident caused the death of the at-fault driver. This accident was clearly avoidable and the 68-year-old driver should be held accountable for his negligence.
