Teen Dies in One-Vehicle Elyria Crash

February 28, 2012 - Elyria, Ohio - A 16-year old girl died in a one-car accident in Elyria Township on February 27, 2012.  The vehicle was driving four teenagers when it was involved in a one-car crash between State Route 57 and Middle Ridge Road.    The accident occurred around 6 p.m.  The cause of the crash remains under investigation.  It appeared that the 17-year old driver lost control of her car while driving west on Route 2 between State Route 57 and Middle Ridge Road.  The car veered off the road and struck a tree. There were four passengers, all were injured in the accident. Channel Five News has reported the accident also caused the death of a 16-year old girl.

While this case is a tragic accident, the driver that went off the road should be held accountable for the damage she caused to her passengers. Accidents involving one vehicle are often caused by distracted and/or intoxicated drivers. This case highlights the significant costs distracted drivers can cause in accidents when they fail to give full attention to their driving. When a vehicle goes off the road at a high rate of speed, injuries are likely to occur once the vehicle crashes. When accidents occur on roads with high rates of speed, such as State Route 2, the injuries quickly rise in severity. In this case, it caused the front passenger to lose her life. This accident was clearly avoidable and the driver should be held accountable for her negligence.
