Wrong-way Driver Kills 3 College Students

March 2, 2012 - Bowling Green, Ohio - Three college students from Bowling Green State University were killed in a car accident on I-75 in Northwest, Ohio.  The car accident occurred just south of Middleton Pike, south of Toldeo, Ohio.   The students were travelling to Detroit airport to catch a plane for their Spring Break vacation.   They were travelling on I-75 North when a 69-year old woman from Perrysburg, Ohio struck their car, head-on.  Police have reported the 69-year old was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes.  The 69-year old was also killed in the two-car vehicle accident.  In total, this accident caused the tragic death of three students and critically injured two others.  The accident was widely reported on Cleveland's Channel 5 News, WKYC, and cleveland.com.

While this case is a tragic accident, the driver that went southbound on the northbound lanes of I-75 should be held accountable for the damage she caused to the other driver and her passengers. These bright students had their whole lives in front of them. Their lives were cut short by the recklessness and negligence of one elderly driver. This case highlights the significant costs negligent drivers can cause in accidents when they go the wrong way into oncoming traffic. When two cars are travelling in opposite directions collide, the force of the collision is approximately the same as if you were to drive into a brick wall. The significant amount of force associated with the collision greatly increases the severity of injuries. In this case, this accident caused the death of three individuals. This accident was clearly avoidable and the 69-year-old wrong-way driver should be held accountable for her negligence.
